Bible chronology puts the flood at about 2400 B.C., about 4400 years ago.  Here are just a few independent evidences pointing to this date:

• The oldest living things are trees.  There are some that are thousands of years old.  In California in 1958 the oldest living trees were discovered.  They are the first generation and dated at about 4600 years old by tree rings.  This means they started growing about 2600 B.C.!

 
• Sediments at the Mississippi River Delta estimated to be only about 4,000 years old.

 
• Streams along the San Andreas Fault in California have been shifted due to sudden earthquakes and the gradual slipping of the continental plates.  Offsets for these streams mean they started shifting less than 5000 years ago.

 
• The current human population fits well within this date for the Flood.  Beginning with 8 people (Noah and his family) about 4400 years ago would give us the population we have today.  After all, if the earth really is billions of years old, the earth would have been overpopulated by all living things millions of years ago.  See Exhibit 17 Population.

 
• The Inner Gorge of the Grand Canyon could have been carved within this 4400 year time frame.  See Exhibit 23A The Grand Canyon Formation.

 
• Written histories from around the world better indicate a young world rather than one that is millions of years old.
