Exhibit 4: Fossils

The Creation/Flood model says that fossils were created when organisms were rapidly buried alive in a short period of time.

The Evolution/Uniformism model states that these organisms died and were buried slowly over long periods of time.

The vast majority of fossils are found in sedimentary rocks.  Sedimentary rocks are formed from deposits (sediments) laid down by rapidly moving water. Fossils are very common numbering in the billions.  Yet virtually none are being formed today.  What event in the past could have laid down hundreds of feet of sediments (deposited by rapidly moving water) preserving billions of fossils rapidly before they could decay?

Fossil clams indicate they were buried alive.  If they had died first, the muscle holding the shell together would rapidly decay and only the separate shells would be found.  Many fossils indicate they were alive and buried rapidly.  In Siberia many animals including mammoths were quickly frozen.  Many of them are upright and have partially chewed food in their mouths and undigested food in their stomachs.  See Exhibit 23E Millions of Frozen Mammoths.

Evolutionists often say that the best evidence for Evolution is the fossil record.  But note that the fossil record is not even necessary to determine if Creation or Evolution is the true explanation for life.  Why look for the living among the dead? There are about a million species living today and there would be trillions of transitional individuals all around us now if Evolution was actually occurring!
This Trilobite is supposedly at the bottom of the Evolutionary Family Tree.  Life in the beginning 600 million years ago was simple and primitive we've been taught.  But take a look at those eyes.  Yes, they are compound eyes just as fully formed and marvelous as any "modern" eyes are. Trilobites and thousands of other fully developed, complex creatures suddenly appeared with no trace whatsoever of any ancestors.  See Exhibit 3 Family Tree Charts to see the greatest span of "missing links" from single celled life to these complex creatures!
Billions of fish like these have been fossilized all over the world.  Yet virtually no fossils of any life forms are being created today!  Most fish float when they die, and are consumed in a short time.  What event happened in the past to rapidly preserve billions of living things in fossil form?
In Siberia millions of mammoths are frozen in the permafrost.  Many of them are standing upright and are in the middle of chewing grass and flowers.  They were frozen so quickly that their flesh is preserved and could be eaten today! Fossils are often found "out of order" according to what the Evolutionists expect to find.  See Exhibit 7 Unconformities.  The Creation/Flood model does not require any particular order to fossils since they were all contemporaries.  Human artifacts have been found in coal mines that are supposed to be 600 million years old according to Evolutionists (see Exhibit 13 Dating Methods).
This is a fossil tree which runs through several layers of sediments indicating that all the layers were deposited rapidly and preserved the tree before it decayed .
Transitional forms are absent in the fossil record just as they are missing from the living around us today.  Archaeopteryx shown here was often cited as a transitional form between birds and reptiles.  Today it is accepted as fully bird.  For any transitional form, we should be able to see a smooth transition from one form to another over long periods of time.  See Exhibit 5 Transitional Forms.
Footprints like these on a beach will not fossilize under normal circumstances.  They must harden rapidly before erosion erases them.
This is a three-toed dinosaur footprint in northern Arizona.  This and thousands of other footprints must have been preserved rapidly before the next rain or high tide erases them. Do you believe this footprint has lasted for 65,000,000 years without eroding away? That's over 23,725,000,000 days with heating and cooling, wind and rain, yet the footprint looks like it was just formed yesterday. Perhaps it's easier to believe it is only a few thousand years old, especially when there apparently is a human footprint near it! See Exhibit 4A Fossils - Humans with dinosaurs.
Rhinoceros fossils obviously buried rapidly to preserve them before erosion and decay happened.

If you don't believe God created all living things, male and female, in 6 days....
How many millions of years was it between the first male and the first female?
