Frequently Asked Questions

What is the "Gospel?"

Gospel simply means "good news."  The bad news is that we are all sinners and are doomed to Hell unless we can be saved.  The good news is that Jesus died in our place to save us.

Here are some verses from the Bible about salvation.

Scripture quotations taken from the New American Standard Bible®, Copyright © 1960, 1962, 1963, 1968, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1975, 1977, 1995 by The Lockman Foundation Used by permission. (www.Lockman.org)

The Bible claims to be God's revelation to man:
2 Tim 3:16All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness;
2 Tim 3:17so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.
Gal 1:11For I would have you know, brethren, that the gospel which was preached by me is not according to man.
Gal 1:12For I neither received it from man, nor was I taught it, but I received it through a revelation of Jesus Christ.
2 Pet 1:20But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one's own interpretation,
2 Pet 1:21for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.

We need to be saved:
Rom 5:12Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned--
Rom 3:10as it is written, "THERE IS NONE RIGHTEOUS, NOT EVEN ONE;
Rom 3:11THERE IS NONE WHO UNDERSTANDS, THERE IS NONE WHO SEEKS FOR GOD;
Rom 3:12ALL HAVE TURNED ASIDE, TOGETHER THEY HAVE BECOME USELESS; THERE IS NONE WHO DOES GOOD, THERE IS NOT EVEN ONE."
Rom 3:13"THEIR THROAT IS AN OPEN GRAVE, WITH THEIR TONGUES THEY KEEP DECEIVING," "THE POISON OF ASPS IS UNDER THEIR LIPS";
Rom 3:14"WHOSE MOUTH IS FULL OF CURSING AND BITTERNESS";
Rom 3:15"THEIR FEET ARE SWIFT TO SHED BLOOD,
Rom 3:16DESTRUCTION AND MISERY ARE IN THEIR PATHS,
Rom 3:17AND THE PATH OF PEACE THEY HAVE NOT KNOWN."
Rom 3:18"THERE IS NO FEAR OF GOD BEFORE THEIR EYES."
Rom 3:23for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
Eccl 7:20Indeed, there is not a righteous man on earth who continually does good and who never sins.
Rom 6:23For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
John 3:3Jesus answered and said to him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God."

We cannot save ourselves:
Titus 3:5He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit,
Gal 2:16nevertheless knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the Law but through faith in Christ Jesus, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, so that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the Law; since by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified
James 2:10For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles in one point, he has become guilty of all.

Jesus died to save us:
Rom 5:8But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
1 Cor 15:3For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,
1 Cor 15:4and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,
1 Cor 15:5and that He appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve.
1 Cor 15:6After that He appeared to more than five hundred brethren at one time, most of whom remain until now, but some have fallen asleep;
1 Cor 15:7then He appeared to James, then to all the apostles;
1 Cor 15:8and last of all, as to one untimely born, He appeared to me also.
Eph 1:7In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace
Matt 20:28just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many."

God's Word tells us how to be saved by Jesus:
Is 55:6Seek the LORD while He may be found; Call upon Him while He is near.
Is 55:7Let the wicked forsake his way And the unrighteous man his thoughts; And let him return to the LORD, And He will have compassion on him, And to our God, For He will abundantly pardon.
John 3:16"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.
John 3:17"For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.
Rom 10:9that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;
1 John 1:9If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
1 John 1:10If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us.
